Gordons is a leading independent commercial law firm with offices in Leeds and Bradford. We are a modern, straight-talking, ambitious firm dedicated to delivering a range of legal services to clients from the individual entrepreneur and small family business to some of the UK's most successful companies and well-known brands. As a result of our strong reputation and recognised expertise in both corporate and private work our client base extends nationally and beyond.
Types of work
A full-service firm, areas of work include commercial property, construction, corporate/commercial, insolvency, commercial litigation, intellectual property, employment, personal injury, private client and residential property.
Who should apply
Academically our entry standard is a 2:1 degree, though we will take a broader view for those who just miss out. In recruiting trainees we are looking to select our solicitors, and indeed partners, of the future. We therefore look for committed and loyal trainees who are keen to build a successful career in the region and specifically with us. We offer a broad-based training which gives early and increasing responsibility to trainees in a supportive environment. Applicants must be willing to be challenged from week one.
The firm takes pride in its ability to build enduring working relationships with clients so we look for trainees that have the potential to be at ease with clients, relate well to them in both a business and social context, and most importantly inspire trust and confidence in the legal advice that they give. Interpersonal skills, a professional yet friendly manner and sound commercial awareness are key criteria we use to measure the suitability of applicants.
We will be running a summer vacation scheme in June.
The training contract consists of four six-month seats, which usually includes commercial property, corporate and a litigation-based department. During the second year of the training contract trainees are able to express their preference of department and we try to accomodate these requests where possible. Trainees are actively encouraged to get involved in marketing, networking, training and other events hosted by the firm and/or clients. The environment is supportive and friendly, with trainees allocated mentors to help settle them into firm life and regular meetings with their supervisors to ensure their progress.
The firm provides sponsorship towards future SQE studies.
