Magic circle firm Linklaters has launched an ‘online internship’ inviting students to test how they get on with the types of work experienced by real-life vacation scheme candidates.
The online programme takes around six hours to complete, with mock tasks including preparing presentation slides and recording phone messages for clients.
However, as the Law Gazette reports, the results of the mock tasks are not seen by anyone at Linklaters, so although a self-marking option will be available, completing the programme will not increase a candidate’s chance of securing a real vacation scheme at the firm.
Fionnghuala Griggs, graduate recruitment partner, said: “We know that a simple lack of awareness of what life is like at firms like Linklaters is often one of the biggest barriers preventing otherwise strong candidates from applying to join. We hope this new virtual platform will give students a taste of what it’s really like to experience the day to day work of a city firm and inspire them to find out more.”
