Trainees usually spend six months in each of four specialist departments, with their preferences being taken into account in this rotation so far as possible. There is only one trainee per department at any one time, so he or she plays a very important role, receiving a high level of responsibility, with real work and supervised client contact from the outset.

Trainees are subject to regular assessment, with mid seat reviews and end of seat appraisals, and engage in the required Professional Skills and induction courses, as well as a formal in-house training programme. However, with the firm's team outlook and open door policy they also have constant access to help and support from partners and associates who are acknowledged experts in their fields.
