Wilkin Chapman LLP is the largest law firm in Lincolnshire and East Yorkshire, with an unrivalled breadth and depth of expertise and experience.
We are distinguished by our approachability, innovation and commitment to providing the best service we can to our clients along with achieving and maintaining quality standards.
We believe that this quality, service-led approach is also reflected by the number of accreditations and recommendations that the firm regularly achieves with the UK's leading legal directories, such as Legal 500, Chambers UK and is ranked 111 in The Lawyer UK’s top 200 law firms by turnover.
As a modern, progressive firm whose reputation has been built up over many years, we work to a set of values and behaviours known as ‘STAIR’ values. They define who and what we are and underpin everything we do. Wilkin Chapman is, therefore, committed to providing a highly professional, efficient and personal service with a client-centred focus. We believe that we can only provide the best service by recruiting and supporting the development of the best staff. That is why we place great emphasis on ensuring your training programme is robust, providing you with the best opportunities to develop your career progression to becoming a solicitor.
We have 15 one-week placements available per year for undergraduate students, which are split across our Grimsby, Lincoln and Beverley offices. Placements take place during the Easter and summer breaks. Further details of the specific placement dates available can be found on our application form.
Placements are structured to allow you the opportunity to spend time in two of the firm’s core divisions and therefore experience the different types of work that we do.
During your placement, you will experience first-hand what it’s like to be part of the Wilkin Chapman team, by working on real client matters alongside our trainees, solicitors and partners. You are likely to be involved in drafting documents, conducting research and meeting clients. In addition, there will be presentations on training contracts with Wilkin Chapman and the wider firm, with lots of opportunities to ask questions and find out more about us.
Typically, your two-year contract will provide you with hands on experience in a number of different areas of law, one of them non-contentious. The training period will be split into four six-month placements. For some part of your training contract, you may spend time at more than one of our offices in order to give you experience of different types of clients and work. However, we do flex our training contracts to meet our business needs.
Who should apply
Candidates should preferably have a 2:1 either in law or another discipline and be able to demonstrate a consistently good academic record. Our client-focused approach means that we look for candidates who will be excellent communicators with a desire to achieve the best possible result for the client. There is excellent scope for career progression at Wilkin Chapman for strong candidates.
LPC/SQE funding is available up to a maximum contribution of £13,500 for those yet to commence their studies.
